Will someone please tell me why no one has turned me on to Robin Trower until now.
So my buddy Tim says to me a few months ago, "CHefdino, you want to go see Robin Trower at the House of Blues in June with me???" My reply is "Sure, why not." Tim is a man who seems to know good music when he hears it so why not take an opportunity to hear some "New Talent".
New Talent my ass. The guy holding the guitar in the picture above is Robin Trower. When he walked out on stage on thought " Oh my god, this old guy is lost and somehow ended up on the stage. He cant be this Robin guy. This guy couldnt hold a guitar of more then ten minutes let alone for an hour or two for a show. WHat is going on??
Then he strummed the guitar.
And things got magical from there.
A solid 1.5 hour show with non- stop rock/jazz guitar that maybe only two or three people in the world could pull off. And not the self indulgent crap like Ingwie puts out. This stuff was moving, emotion driven, mana from the sky. To top it off his lead singer had a voice like Paul Rogers of Bad Company and could rip out the vocals with a clarity you rarely find in a" Guitar as center of group" type of band.
So what if this guy looked frail and grey. He rocked it better then most "New" music I have heard in the last 20 years.
Thanks for the suggestion Tim. I will have to take more.
